Jon Bernthal On Potential Return As Marvel’s The Punisher

Jon Bernthal opened up about potentially returning as The Punisher for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One of the highlights from Netflix and Marvel’s partnership was a Punisher series, which starred Jon Bernthal. The character first appeared in the second season of Daredevil. After Frank Castle’s debut in the MCU was deemed a winner, the character received his own solo series on Netflix. With the launch of Disney Plus looming over the horizon, Disney pulled the plug on any future Netflix and Marvel projects, effectively canceling The Punisher, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, among others.

With rumors suggesting that Daredevil stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’onofrio will pop up in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have been wondering if Jon Bernthal would return to the role of The Punisher. In a recent chat with ScreenRant, Bernthal said he wouldn’t be opposed to returning to the theatrical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that a potential return as The Punisher doesn’t really cross his mind.

“You know, we’ll see, I mean, honestly, I don’t think about it very much. I’m really happy — look, we’re all enormously blessed to be doing this. I can say for the other guys that you’re talking to as well, we really love this. We really love doing this. We work hard at it, we support our families by it, through it, but we never lose touch just how grateful we are to be in the position that we are that we get to do this for a living. I like to do this. I like to work with people I really respect and love and admire and make stuff with. This kind of project is precisely, it’s exactly the kind of stuff I want to be doing. So, whatever else comes, you know, kind of down the road, comes. But, this is something that’s really worth celebrating.”

Should Cox and D’onorio return as their Daredevil characters in No Way Home, a precedent will be set regarding Netflix Marvel characters appearing in theatrical films. By the sound of Jon Bernthal’s answer, he doesn’t seem opposed to returning as The Punisher but also isn’t too overly excited about one. Hopefully, Marvel can offer him a sweet deal to suit up as Frank Castle once again.
