Sony has moved the release of Tom Hardy’s Venom: Let The Be Carnage once again – this time by two weeks.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s surprise-hit Venom, was originally slated to release on September 24th after a year’s worth of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as the Delta variant began to pick up steam in North America, Sony opted to delay the film to October 15th, with some rumors even suggesting that the studio would push the sequel to early January. After the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which broke Labour Day weekend records, Sony has decided to move up Tom Hardy’s sequel up by two weeks, with Let There Be Carnage now slated to hit cinemas on October 1st.
Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings managed to rack up over $90 million over its four-day weekend, proving that audiences are itching to get back to their old cinemagoing habits, especially for superheroe movies like Venom. Sony moving up the release for their Fall tentpole also bodes well for the industry as a whole as confidence the box office – particularly for films who are participating in a traditional, exclusive theatrical release – seems to be gaining momentum.
Prior to Shang-Chi‘s gains, Paramount delayed some of their bigger projects, like Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick to 2022, which was originally set to hit cinemas later this Winter. With Sony setting a percent by moving the Venom sequel up, it remains to be seen if studios like Paramount will decide to accelerate the release of their anticipated films.

The evolution story of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass character – Venom! Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is a broken man after he loses everything including his job and fiancée. Just when his life is at its lowest, he becomes host to an alien symbiote which results in extraordinary superpowers – transforming him into Venom. Will these powers be enough for this new lethal protector to defeat great evil forces, especially against the far stronger and more weaponized symbiote rival, Riot?
Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script written by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.
Venom is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, while Let There Be Carnage will hit theaters on October 15.
