‘Shang-Chi’ Director On The Abomination’s Return & Redesign

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton talked about the Abomination’s updated look in the upcoming film.

During Disney’s Investor Day last December, we learned that Tim Roth would be back as the Abomination in the She-Hulk Disney Plus series. However, audiences will see his return much sooner since he will also appear in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

This time around, the Abomination will also have an appearance much more faithful to his comic book look. In an interview with Fandango, Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton talked about the Abomination’s return and new look:

“He’s big and scary and looks really cool. I can’t really say anything about Abomination [laughs]…. I think Abomination got a bit of an upgrade… or we might call it an evolution going through time. I do really love the design that we landed on for that character.”

The Abomination first appeared in Phase One’s The Incredible Hulk over a decade ago. In Shang-Chi, it seems the Hulk villain will be part of a tournament that will also involve Wong and our heroes.

Here is the synopsis for Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings:

“Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi in Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings. Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.”

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by David Callaham, the Marvel film stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Ronny Chieng, and Dallas Liu. The upcoming movie will hit theaters on September 3, 2021.
