Emily VanCamp Chris Evans Sharon Carter Captain America Civil War The Falcon And The Winter SoldierThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Emily VanCamp has some mixed feelings over the kiss her character shared with Captain America in Civil War.

One of the standout characters from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was Sharon Carter, played by Emily VanCamp. The actress has appeared as Sharon Carter in the Marvel Cinemaitc Universe multiple times, particularly opposite Chris Evans’ Captain America. While The Falcon and the Winter Soldier added tons of weight to Sharon Carter, the most iconic (and controversial) moment the character has had was actually in Captain America: Civil War. Come on, you know the scene.

While Captain America is on the run, he seeks out Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter to get his star-spangled suit and shield back. When they’re about to part ways for what looks like forever, they lock lips. While it was nice for Captain America’s friends to see him hit it off with someone, it was pretty weird for audiences to see Steve Rogers make out with Peggy Carter’s great-niece. In an interview with Collider to discuss her time on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, VanCamp expressed the same sentiments we shared while watching that scene in 2016.

“You sort of trust and hope that it all makes sense in the end. I did have a few moments where I wondered, ‘Are we going too far with this? Should this be more of an amicable, friendly moment?’ I didn’t really know. I don’t think any of us really knew. I don’t think it’s anyone’s fault that it didn’t totally work in terms of the story. I don’t think anyone knew where that was headed or what we were going to do with that moment. It was a sweet moment as it was.”

It was a sweet moment for both Sharon Carter and Steve Rogers, as well as Falcon and the Winter Soldier, who both nodded in glee, but the scene, which came off as tender, didn’t hold any weight as the franchise moved along. In fact, Emily VanCamp continued the question by touching upon that sentiment.

“It’s a hard one to answer because you don’t want to sort of say, ‘Well, it was a terrible moment and it didn’t make any sense,’ because everyone’s just kind of doing the best they can to service the story in that moment, really.”
