None of us knows exactly what the results will be (regardless of what we could see on Twitter). However, what we do know is that: Girls will determine this election.
Regardless of being left out from this Constitution, girls –and girls of colour in particular–are in the forefront of protecting our democracy in the very start. Even the 2016 election was yet another inflection point in our nation’s history, together with Hillary Clinton’s tragic loss to Donald Trump galvanizing girls like never before. Millions took to the streets daily after Inauguration Day from the biggest political protest in the history of the nation. By women attorneys who provided service at airports in the aftermath of the Muslim ban and flocked into the boundary at droves to assist asylum seekers, to the natives of sexual assault who bravely spoke out against the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh (such as Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, to Congress), into the tidal wave of varied women elected to office from 2018, girls would be the most effective political force in the us.
In Supermajority, a girls ’s advocacy organization working to mobilize millions of women into political activity, we think that if we bring women together across race, age, geography, and history, they could alter the direction of the nation. And that is precisely what is happening at this time.
Over the previous seven weeks, women–particularly women of color–also have retained America running. They are essential workers placing their bodies in the line; dentists holding our loved ones’ hands once we can not; teachers making certain their students aren’t just studying, but secure and wholesome; along with parents struggling to balance fulltime job. In the middle of an economic disaster that has obtained a catastrophic toll on girls –notably Black and Latina girls –girls saw Trump and Republicans from the Senate hurry to confirm that a Supreme Court nominee who wishes to remove healthcare through a pandemic and also roll back reproductive rights.
Today, girls are voting as their lives depend on this. Almost 37 million girls have cast their ballots, making up 53.4percent of voters.
