HBO Max chief Casey Bloys opened up about the potential of future DC film and TV crossovers with Peacemaker and The Batman spinoff shows.
The future of DC’s film and TV projects is looking particularly bright with James Gunn’s Peacemaker series on the horizon alongside The Batman spinoff focusing on the Gotham City Police Department. It seems like Warner Bros. and HBO Max is looking to add a larger sense of connectivity to their films and shows. HBO Max’s content chief Casey Bloys spoke to TheWrap about the platform’s new strategy, explaining that WarnerMedia is working as a whole when it comes to DC and The CW.
“So, two things I would say on that. One is I think the first show up for HBO Max for DC will be ‘Peacemaker’ with John Cena. That’ll be a good example of what Max can do with DC. Producing at a more highly elevated level, probably more like the movies than what CW is doing. And a big thing going forward for WarnerMedia, and DC specifically, is having everybody involved in DC talking, so that a show on Max is aware of a movie, and is aware of a CW show.”
Bloys was also asked if main and supporting characters from the big screen movies would show up in the HBO Max projects, using Jeffrey Wright’s Commissioner Gordon in The Batman as an example. The content chief explained that characters won’t be reserved specifically for one platform, although he was careful not to suggest which characters will make an appearance in the series – so don’t expect Robert Pattinson to show up in every episode. Take a look below.
“That’s the idea. Matt Reeves is obviously a producer on ‘Gotham City PD.’ We don’t want to reserve characters just for films or for TV. There should be kind of some fluidity between them. So that is the idea. I mean, we’re in very early stages on that. So I don’t want to suggest that any one character will be. But yes, that is, generally speaking, that is the idea, that there will be crossover.”
What do you make of the HBO Max chief’s words bout future DC crossovers? Are you excited to see Peacemaker and The Batman’s ‘Gotham City PD.’? Let us know in the comments!
The plot of The Batman is being kept under wraps, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as Gotham City’s Caped Crusader. The Batman will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the character. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films starring Pattinson.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, Robert Pattinson stars as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Peacemaker and other DC Films projects, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
