The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has shared the full warning sign posted at Belle Reve.
Belle Reve got the star treatment in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, where it was heavily featured. The penitentiary that houses various DC criminals, including Task Force X, also serves as the base headquarters for the team. Just because it’s home doesn’t mean the prisoners are allowed to use their powers.
Taking to social media, director James Gunn shared the full warning sign at the Belle Reve Prison that explicitly warns inmates not to use their powers. The notice sign then goes on to list several powers that are prohibited, including elemental transmutation, removable limbs, and astral projection. Should prisoners dabble in their powers, they’ll be sent to solitary confinement.
We’ll likely revisit Belle Reve in the upcoming Peacemaker series, which will focus on the eponymous character and his various adventures with Amanda Waller’s crew. The series, which takes place directly after the events of The Suicide Squad, debuts on HBO Max in January, making it the first television series set within the DC Extended Universe. James Gunn will serve as the series’ writer and will direct five out of the eight episodes.
Here is the synopsis for The Suicide Squad:
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid, and Taika Waititi.
The Suicide Squad is now available on BluRay, 4K, DVD, and Digital Download. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of James Gunn’s pocket of the DC Universe and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
