Tom Holland has teased 3 Spidey generations coming together in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is just a month away from gracing cinemas, which means we’ll find out soon enough if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are actually in the film. Rumors, which have persisted for months, suggest that Tom Holland’s latest Spidey adventure will serve as a live-action Spider-Verse of sorts.
That being said, Tom Holland is adamant that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield aren’t in the film, despite teasing three generations of villains coming together. Holland spoke about the previous Spider-Man villains coming together to Total Film.
“People don’t believe me when I say that [Maguire and Garfield] are not coming back. But people are going to have to believe me at some point. It means a lot to me. The first time you see Doc and the rest of the characters that come back, it’s so exciting – and it’s such a huge moment in cinematic history. It’s three generations coming together.”
Tom Holland also revealed to the outlet that Jamie Foxx’s Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would also be appearing in No Way Home. Holland continued by opening up about the film, discussing how the film will be the most challenging adventure his version of Spider-Man has been on. The star also teased how darker the threequel will be compared to previous entries in the MCU Spidey franchise.
“It’s dark and it’s sad, and it’s going to be really affecting. You’re going to see characters that you love go through things that you would never wish for them to go through. And I was just really excited to kind of lean into that side of Peter Parker.”
“Peter Parker is always someone who’s looking up. He’s always really positive. He’s always like, ‘I can fix this. I can do this.’ Whereas in this film, he feels like he’s met his match. He’s like, ‘I don’t know what to do.’ That was an aspect of the character that I’d never seen before, and I was really, really excited to try to tackle.”
The No Way Home star also revealed that he’s only seen bits and pieces of the film, but he’s confident that it’s the best Spidey project he’s been a part of.
“I haven’t seen the film yet but I’ve seen pieces of the film, and it’s the best work we’ve ever done. It’s the best Spider-Man film that we’ve ever made. I really don’t think fans are at all ready for what they’ve put together. I know that I’m not ready, and I know that it’s going to be brutal.”
Here is the synopsis for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is umasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”
