On Tuesday, Red Hat CTO Chris Wright along with CentOS Community Manager Rich Bowen every single declared that a Huge shift in the near long run and operate of CentOS Linux. Moving ahead, there’ll not be any CentOS Linux{} , there will (just ) be CentOS Stream.

Originally announced in September 2019, CentOS Stream functions as”a rolling trailer of what is following in RHEL”–it is meant to look and operate {} a trailer of Red Hat Enterprise Linux since it’ll be a year or so later on.

What is a CentOS, anyhow?

CentOS–that is short for Community Enterprise Linux Operating System–has been set in 2004. CentOS’ initial 2004 launch was called variant 2–to match then-current RHEL 2.1. Ever since that time, each significant version increment of RHEL has caused a corresponding new key version of CentOS, after the exact same versioning strategy and assembled largely from precisely exactly the exact identical source.
