Recently revealed concept art from Zack Snyder’s Justice League shows off several versions of Steppenwolf that are completely different to the final villain.
When Steppenwolf arrived in 2017’s Justice League, many fans weren’t impressed with the boring character design and his generic motivations. And although the new version of the film features a drastically different look for the villain, he went through a number of different iterations before Zack Snyder and the team settled on his spiky set of armor. Steppenwolf’s story in the Snyder is also hugely different this time around as he’s trying to get back in favor with the lord of Apokolips, Darkseid.
Notable concept artist Jerad S. Marantz took to Instagram to show off his wild Steppenwolf designs which feature three very distinct looks for the villain. The first of which is possibly the most alien out of the bunch thanks to the bizarre anatomy of the New Gods character – but the fleshy tone and his piercing eyes makes it so unsettling. The second takes its cues from the red armor of the New 52 era of the comics, while the final image looks the closest to the version we see in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Take a look below.
What do you think Steppenwolf’s final design in Justice League? Do you think he should have had the New 52 inspired design all the way through? Sound-off in the comments below!
Here is the official synopsis for the Snyder Cut:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
