11 Items That Feel Really Fresh for 2022

The old tropes of things being called “in” or “out” have become redundant, as we embrace more of an appreciation for personal style. That doesn’t mean there aren’t styling updates or fresh silhouettes to appreciate, however, and for spring 2022 there really is something for all tastes. In our Spring Summer 2022 trend report, Hannah Almassi writes that for spring designers ‘there are places to go, people to see and the many ensembles to suit.’

If you want to dress like it’s the turn of the millenium, there are lots of Y2K items heading to our new-in sections, from crystals to super strappy dresses. However if you like to keep things more simple and classic, then you might be drawn towards the minimalist basics, whether that’s a mini skirt or a beautifully tailored pair of trousers. Floral wrap dreses and trench coats will always be popular every spring, however these 11 items all feel really fresh for 2022. Keep scrolling to shop our shopping list for spring.

One of the most prominent silhouettes for spring 2022 was a maxi, and one of the coolest interpretations of this trend was a billowing kaftan dress, such as the rust coloured beauty as seen above at Chloe.

According to Google Trends, from December 2020 to December 2021, the searches for “platform shoes” have doubled. This interest is only going to continue further into 2022 thanks to designers like Stella McCartney and Versace who are bringing us stacked shoes and sandals. The below Russell and Bromley heels are a personal favourite.

There has been a rise in interest for ultra-luxe, but quiet wardrobe staples, and in the spring summer 2022 collections we saw so many beautiful, tailored trousers. Look for interesting twists, such as cropped silhouettes, unusual finishes or the use of leather.

Party season isn’t quite coming together, as most Christmas parties and plans have been cancelled. But don’t hang up your sequins just yet, as many designers such as Versace and Celine used high-shine fabrics for spring summer 2022 as part of the wider Y2K revival.

The miniskirt has made a comeback, thanks to Prada where almost every look included a micro mini. Mini styles are currently 46% of skirts stocked online at fast-fashion retailers, indicating that this is a silhouette shift that people will buy into in 2022.

The movement for big, oversized blazers has been happening for a while now, but it’s going even further for spring, with long sleeves and giant blazers often styled with bra tops or crop tops, for a fun proportion play.

There are lots of colours on the horizon for spring 2022, but one of the freshest is this tangerine shade that we saw at Saint Laurent.

There are so many beautiful white dresses on the horizon for 2022, bridal and not bridal. As the ‘bridal wardrobe’ is on the rise, lots of designers are catering to this rise in demand for special white dresses.

This trend has been bubbling up for a little while now thanks to designers such as Christopher Esber and Nensi Dojaka. The general rule is the thinner the straps the better.

One “of our favourite trends for spring summer 2022 is ‘columns of colour’, and the easiest way to wear this is with a bright summer dress. “Bold, brave brights are here to stay as we continue to embrace fantasy fashion and experiment with eclectic colours and unique prints more than ever before,” says Libby Page, senior market editor at NET-A-PORTER, noting that it’s these vibrant clothes that make consumers feel good from the inside out. “We’re of course backing anything with a positive and adventurous approach.”

Celine’s spring summer 2022 gave us so many cool, but easy to copy outfit ideas, and one of our favourites is this black strapless bustier worn with baggy jeans and heels.
