Lucasfilm exec Kathleen Kennedy has teased the return of characters from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The Star Wars Sequel trilogy may have ended on a sour note for some fans but it looks like the future is brighter than ever for those characters. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker wrapped up the Skywalker saga with a somewhat loose bow, leaving the future for characters like Rey, Poe Dameon, and Finn open-ended. Up until now it seemed somewhat expected that Lucasfilm was done with these characters and would explore heroes and figures outside of the Skywalker saga. That is until Kathleen Kennedy’s latest interview.
In a recent chat with Empire, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy revealed that characters from the Sequel trilogy will eventually return.
“Certainly, those are not characters we’re going to forget. They will live on, and those are conversations that are going on with the creative team as well.”
It’s unclear what the future looks like for The Rise of Skywalker characters, but it’ll probably be a series of Disney Plus shows. The Star Wars franchise has recently pivoted to creating serialized content for Disney Plus in the wake of The Mandalorian‘s success. Though the wounds from the Skywalker saga’s finale are still fresh for some fans, given some time, we can hope for some interesting stories to manifest surrounding our favorite characters who are still alive.
