Marvel’s Kevin Feige Says Hailee Steinfeld Didn’t Need To Audition For ‘Hawkeye’

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that Hailee Steinfeld didn’t audition for Hawkeye.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe made its expansion into television this year through original series streaming exclusively on Disney Plus. Kevin Feige’s long-game plan for Phase 4 is looking to introduce even more characters to the MCU, including Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, who is set to debut in the upcoming Hawkeye series.

As it turns out, Hailee Steinfeld was offered the role and didn’t even need to audition. During the global press conference for Hawkeye, Kevin Feige revealed that having their eyes set on the Academy Award-nominated actress playing Kate Bishop ended up working out for both parties in the end:

“Hailee did not audition. We were very, very lucky that Hailee was open to this because we very much believed that she was sort of the prototype for the character… As occasionally happens, the dream version of the character agrees to do it. I think there were some early meetings and discussions, but we were very thankful that she wanted to jump into this role because we had a feeling that she would be great, and she is.”

Kevin Feige is often praised for his leadership at Marvel Studios, which includes having a hand in finding the right actors and actresses to bring certain characters from the panels to the screen to life. Hailee Steinfeld is already a critically-acclaimed actress, and to see her be the latest performer to step into the MCU is a testament to the franchise’s track record with some of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars. Given that actors and actresses are often expected to sign multiple-film/series deals, it wouldn’t be surprising to see if Kate Bishop has a big future ahead of her.

Here is the synopsis for Hailee Steinfeld’s Hawkeye:

Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Brian d’Arcy James, and Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh is expected to return in her Black Widow role.

Hawkeye is set to premiere with two episodes on November 24, exclusively on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding Kevin Feige’s future with the MCU, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
