Brandon Routh On A Potential ‘Kingdom Come’ Superman Series

Former Superman Brandon Routh has opened up about a potential Kingdom Come series.

One of the most iconic Superman series, Kingdom Comes, sees the Joker killing almost everyone at the Daily Planet, including Lois Lane. Grief-stricken, Superman reels with the tragedy and goes off the deep end, becoming exactly what he feared. Modern-day Superman projects like the Injustice games and the Knightmare sequences from Zack Snyder’s films have all dabbled with this plotline, but we’ve never seen the actual story get directly adapted.

However, the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover finale could serve as the perfect jumping-off point for Brandon Routh’s character to explore the storyline. Routh’s more experienced, darker, and mature take on the character could easily participate in a Kingdom Come adaptation.

When asked by Comicbook.com if he was interested in that prospect, Brandon Routh remained optimistic but maintained that it was unlikely.

“…given the story is the right story and Superman portrayed in the way that I see Superman. I was absolutely always interested in that. I have made my own investigations about the possibility of something like that. Right now, the truth is that we’re flush with Superman stuff, with the success of Superman & Lois — and Tyler’s doing an awesome job on that — and then there’s a couple scripts and stuff going around for features, I think, in different iterations at Warner Bros.”

Here is the synopsis for Brandon Routh’s Superman Returns:

In a soaring new chapter in the epic story of the Man of Steel, Superman Returns to fight for truth and justice! While old enemy Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey–Seven, L.A. Confidential) plots to render him powerless, Superman (Brandon Routh) must face the heartbreaking realization that Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth–Beyond the Sea), has moved on with her life. Or has she? From the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space, Superman blazes an epic journey of redemption to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction. The X-Men’s Bryan Singer takes the helm in this superpowered epic action-adventure that reunites Superman with a world that’s almost learned to live without him.

Directed by Bryan Singer with a script he co-wrote with Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, Superman Returns stars Brandon Routh, Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, James Marsden, Frank Langella, Eva Marie Saint, Parker Posey, Kal Penn, and Sam Huntington.
