A brand new concept design for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman imagines Eternals star Barry Keoghan becoming the Joker.
Let’s be honest, Robert Pattinson’s The Batman is one of the most anticipated superhero films coming out in the next couple of years. From what we’ve seen, Matt Reeves’ dark and mature take on the Caped Crusader is unlike anything that’s been on screen before. Leaning heavily into the detective-heavy nature of the characters, Reeves’ film will focus on the psychological aspects of the character more than any previous version.
Reeves has tapped Robert Pattinson to star as the titular character, with Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell and Paul Dano being brought in to play villains Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler, respectively. With such a fantastic and unique rogues gallery assembled, there’s one character clearly missing from the picture: The Joker.
Ever since Eternals hit cinemas, fans have been hoping to see Barry Keoghan star as the Joker for Matt Reeves’ vision of Gotham. While it’s uncertain that the Joker will pop up in the upcoming film, Barry Keoghan would make for a fantastic Clown Prince of Crime.
Artist Jaxson Derr took inspiration from the fan casting and has created a brand new concept design that sees Barry Keoghan becoming the infamous Joker for Robert Pattinson’s forthcoming DC film.
In a way, the Joker has become oversaturated at this rate in our cultural zeitgeist, so it might not be the time to debut another take on the character. However, Barry Keoghan has shown time and time again through his independent features like The Green Knight and The Killing of a Sacred Deer that he’s capable of portraying unhinged, almost maniacal characters, making him a perfect fit for the character.
Here’s the synopsis for the Robert Pattinson film:
“THE BATMAN is an edgy, action-packed thriller that depicts Batman in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he’s hunting.”
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The Batman will hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film, Barry Keoghan’s future, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
