Taika Waititi’s ‘Star Wars’ Co-Writer Talks Getting The Franchise Right

Krysty Wilson-Cairns, the co-writer of Taika Waititi’s upcoming Star Wars film has opened up about getting the franchise right.

Earlier this year it was officially revealed that Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi was set to co-write and direct his own Star Wars film. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had informally offered the director a film after seeing Thor: Ragnarok and Waititi even directed the first season finale of The Mandalorian. But, as it turned out, the legendary producer was not done using the director’s talents.

Very little is currently known about Taika Waititi’s upcoming Star Wars film. Like most of the planned installments, the movie is shrouded in secrecy and mystery and even the film’s co-writer, Krysty Wilson-Cairns, has joked about Disney having her beaten up if she answers a question incorrectly. In a more recent interview with Variety, the writer talked about the matter further, echoing sentiments made in her previous interview, and talked about getting the franchise right:

“You have to research, study and spend a lot of time to get it right. It’s really important to honor not only your commitment to it but also to the legions of fans out there.”

Here is the official synopsis for the last theatrical release in the franchise, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker:

Lucasfilm and director J. J. Abrams join forces once again to take viewers on an epic journey to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the riveting conclusion of the seminal Skywalker saga, where new legends will be born and the final battle for freedom is yet to come.

Directed by J. J. Abrams, the film stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. The late Carrie Fisher appears as General Leia Organa by using previously unreleased footage shot for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
