Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ Pulled And Apparently Banned In Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait

Marvel’s upcoming film, Eternals has been pulled from theaters and apparently banned in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait.

After being delayed for over a year, Marvel’s Eternals is finally set to be released this week. The film has already proven to be a more controversial Marvel Cinematic Universe installment thanks to mixed reactions from critics but is still projected to make over $75M on its opening weekend. But now the film has apparently earned itself a ban in several middle eastern countries.

According to a new report, Eternals was originally set for a November 11th release date in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait. The governments of these countries requested that Disney and Marvel perform a series of edits to the film in order for it to be released. The exact reason was not revealed but sources suggested that it has to do with one of the main characters being openly gay and in a same-sex relationship. Homosexuality is still illegal in many of these countries and other films have been pulled and banned from them in the past for similar reasons.

Here is the synopsis for Chloe Zhao’s Eternals:

“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”

Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.

Eternals will hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
