‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Director Rules Out Yondu Resurrection

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is adamant that Yondu won’t return in any future installments that he heralds.

One of the major criticisms Marvel Studios received prior to Avengers: Endgame was how inconsequential the films felt. To take that even further, many were disappointed that all of the main and supporting characters in the roster never got injured or perished. That criticism wained away considerably when James Gunn killed off fan-favorite Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In the sequel, Yondu sacrificed himself so his surrogate son of sorts, Peter Quill, and his makeshift family could live to see another day.

It was an extremely powerful moment in the film, making it one of the most memorable and emotional deaths in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For that reason, director James Gunn has no interest in bringing Yondu back from the dead.

As I’ve said many times before, as long as I’m a part of the Guardians, Yondu is dead, 100%, forever, no magic resurrections. Any other way would be belittling his sacrifice and what his story means to so many people. https://t.co/QveTjUi2nm

While he has no plans to see Yondu return in the present, James Gunn is open to seeing the character return via flashbacks.

Sure. Flashbacks aren’t resurrections.

Perhaps there’s one lined up for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? The Guardians are also set to return for a Holiday Special on Disney Plus. With all the emotions around Christmas, it’s possible that Star-Lord could see himself revisiting moments with his father-figure Yondu in flashbacks.

In addition to Chris Pratt and Will Poulter, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is also expected to star Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn. The film’s core cast members were last seen in Avengers: Endgame.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. Say tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming James Gunn film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
