Netflix’s ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Promises Comical Sci-Fi Spectacle In New Trailer

John Cho’s Cowboy Bepop stuns with its impressive visuals and banter-heavy writing in the latest trailer for the Netflix adaptation.

Cowboy Bepop is one of the most respected and revered properties of the 20th century, so it was a bit nerve-wracking for fans when it was announced that Netflix would be producing a live-action adaptation of the anime series. The anime is highly stylistic, almost to the point of alienation for most casual viewers, which is why a live-action adaptation was always met with trepidation.

As the remake started rounding outs its cast and creative team, it became clear that Netflix was going in the right direction for live-action series. After a stellar first trailer that played up the anime’s stylistic conventions, Netflix has dropped a brand new trailer for their Cowboy Bepop series that promises a lucid marriage of film noir elements and sci-fi spectacle.

The story-heavy trailer breaks down John Cho’s Spike, an intergalactic bounty hunter with a penchant for whiskey and cigarettes, and a mysterious past. Joining him on his journey to make some coin are Mustafa Shakir’s Jet Black, who pilots the Bepop ship, and Daniella Pineda’s Faye Vallentine, who is always at odds with Spike.

The latest trailer is filled with stellar visuals that stick true to the anime’s vision while boasting comedic moments that could rival the original’s. The creators of the adaptation have previously discussed how they would be moving in a different direction as it would be moot to copy what the original had done and excelled at. By the looks of it, Cowboy Bepop is playing up the stylistic elements by 11 and firmly joining the self-aware camp route.

Here is the synopsis for Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop:

“The series focuses on the adventures of a ragtag group of bounty hunters chasing down criminals across the solar system.”

Cowboy Bepop is written by Christoper Yost and stars John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, Daniella Pineda, Alex Hassell, Elena Satine, and Rachel House. The series debuts on November 19.
