‘Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom’ Director James Wan Shares New Look At Upgraded Black Manta Costume

James Wan took to Instagram to share new looks at Black Manta’s upgraded costume in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

At this weekend’s DC FanDome, fans were treated with a behind-the-scenes featurette of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is still filming. Set to hit cinemas next December, DC Extended Universe sequel will see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta on the hunt for Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. While the first film showed Mateen II becoming Black Manta, it’s the sequel that will show him fully embracing the ruthless villain.

The behind-the-scenes featurette briefly teased a new look at the character’s upgraded Black Manta costume but director James Wan has now shared a treasure-trove worth of Black Mantha photos.

There are a few new photos in the batch shared by James Wan, namely the first and the last two, which teases the character’s submarine. By taking a look at Wan’s caption, it’s clear that he and the production and design team have painstakingly tried to create the best possible adaptation of Black Manta’s suit. The villain is expected to have a much larger role in the Aquaman sequel and will likely be joining Dr. Stephen Shin  in his quest to find the fabled Atlantis.

Here is the synopsis for the first Aquaman film:

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

Aquaman is available on Digital HD, 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to hit theaters on December 16, 2022.
