Brand new photos from the Canadian set of The Last of Us series give us our best look yet at Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie.
Originally set to be a movie, Sony’s live-action adaptation of The Last of Us series is now set to be an HBO series. The series stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as the two titular characters trying to survive a zombie apocalypse that has ravaged America. The first season of the show is expected to directly adapt the first game, which hit the PlayStation 3 in 2013.
Currently filming in Edmonton, Canada, the series is set to debut later next year. While we previously received our first official look at Joel and Ellie weeks ago, the teaser image left much to be desired, only showing the character’s backs as they watched over the wreckage. Now, set photos from the series have made their way online, giving us our best look yet at Pedro Pascal’s battle-hardened and jaded Joel.
A brief shot of Bella Ramsey as Ellie was taken, albeit it isn’t as clear as Pedro Pascal’s.
Other set photos surfaced as well, teasing the show’s world design which is surprisingly extremely accurate to that of the games.
The original video game centers on the relationship between a smuggler named Joel and 14-year-old Ellie, the latter of whom may be the key to curing the deadly pandemic that resulted in the post-apocalypse world of the game. Hired to smuggle Ellie out of a quarantine zone, Joel finds himself relying on the teenage girl just as much as she relies on him as they fight to survive on their journey across the United States. The HBO adaptation will cover the events of the first game, with the second game potentially surviving as the basis for additional content. The upcoming series is said to be one of the most expensive ever made, with each episode said to cost roughly $10M with a total budget of around $200M.
HBO’s The Last Of Us currently does not have a release date but is reportedly planned to be released in late 2022.
