‘Dune’ Star Timothee Chalamet Was Told Not To Do Any Superhero Movies

Dune star Timothee Chalamet revealed that an idol of his told him not to take on any superhero roles.

Timothee Chalamet is set to make his first leading blockbuster debut in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. Chalamet has previously appeared innumerable indie productions, which have garnered critical and commercial acclaim. The star has been slowly making the transition to mainstream blockbusters, the first being Dune. After the sci-fi epic, Chalamet will be seen portraying a young Willy Wonka in an origin story.

Arguably one of the most popular young actors working in the industry, Timothee Chalamet’s rise in stature hasn’t been attributed to a superhero film. There has been speculation in the past that Chalamet would take on a superhero project but none have manifested and now we know why.

In a recent interview with Time, Timothee Chalamet recounted a moment he shared with one of his cinematic idols who advised him not to star in superhero films.

“One of my heroes — I can’t say who or he’d kick my ass — he put his arm around me the first night we met and gave me some advice: No hard drugs, and no superhero movies.”

Obviously, we don’t know who Timothee Chalamet is referring to but it appears to be sound advice for the star. Chalamet has already carved a niche for himself in indie productions, and the upcoming Dune seems to cement the fact that he can carry his own blockbuster without the backing of a major superhero franchise. Things can always change and actors always change their minds, so we wouldn’t bat an eye if down the line Chalamet headlined his own DC or Marvel project.

Here is the synopsis for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune:

Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.

Denis Villeneuve directed Dune from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and David Dastmalchian.

Dune arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
