The 9 Brands Fashion Editors Always Buy Their Basics From

If you asked any fashion editor which part of their wardrobe got the most attention, it would probably be basics. Forming the essential groundwork for all outfits, these hard-working buys may fade into the background, but they can be surprisingly hard to get right. After all, the lack of adornment or distraction means there’s more emphasis on perfect fit and quality fabrics—essentially, there’s nowhere to hide.

Everyone has their preferred brands for the different basics in their wardrobe: for example I always go to Arket for white T-shirts and crew neck knits. There are, however, a handful of brands that are widely regarded as failsafes in the basics department, both at high-street and designer ends of the market. So, I did a bit of a poll amongst my fellow editors to find out which brands they turn to again and again for those perfect jeans, boots, roll neck knits or Breton tops.  From Raey’s luxurious cashmere and Toteme’s trending tailoring, to COS’s enviable outwear and Uniqlo’s minimalist separates, scroll down to see and shop the best brands for wardrobe basics.
