Daniel Craig’s final outing as James Bond in No Time To Die managed to nab $56 million during its debut weekend at the domestic box office.
No Time To Die, the fifth film in Daniel Craig’s tenure as James Bond, and the 25th overall film in the franchise, slightly underdelivered domestically with an estimated $56 million debut. After stellar reviews and advanced ticket sales, it was expected that No Time To Die would rack up just over $60 million, a healthy number for Craig’s last stint as the character. Spectre and Skyfall opened to $70 million and $88.4 million, respectively.
No Time To Die opened up first at the box office, ahead of last week’s box office champion Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The Venom sequel broke pandemic records with a $90 million debut, signaling positive growth for the box office domestically. Globally, the James Bond picture is set to cross $300 million, which is not too bad for a film that primarily skews towards older audiences and has a nearly three-hour run time.
Those two factors, as well as the film’s late release, may have positioned it to be slightly underwhelming at the box office. The film was delayed three times and was the first major tentpole to pivot its release in the March of 2020 as the news of the pandemic began to bloom.
It’s not over for No Time To Die as James Bond films notoriously have lengthy legs. With fewer showtimes due to its length and an older audience who wants to wait for crowds to clear, No Time To Die is poised to have a healthy life at the box office. With no major tentpoles opening until Dune, it’s safe to say that both Venom and James Bond will rule the box office until Paul of House Atreides takes over.
