‘The Suicide Squad’ Director Shares First Ever Weasel Screen Test

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has shared the first screen test for Sean Gunn’s Weasel.

One of the most amusing and diabolical characters to come out of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad was Weasel. Though the mammal only appeared on screen for a handful of minutes, the character of Weasel quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his awkward demeanor and frequent, unprovoked sounds. What made him even more interesting was that behind his cute, albeit somewhat creepy look, he was a seasoned killer, making him a perfect member of Task Force X.

Now, The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has shared a hilarious screen test of Sean Gunn as Weasel, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look as to how the actor crafted the character’s weird movements and idiosyncrasies.

Unfortunately, no one from Amanda Waller’s team checked if Weasel could swim, which meant that the Task Force X member was presumed dead in the film’s opening sequence that saw the team assaulting a beach. However, in a post-credits scene, it was revealed that Weasel was alive, coughed up the water in his system, and went on a walk on the beach, far from the destruction that his team members left behind. With the character still alive, we’re hoping to see Weasel pop up in a future DC Extended Universe project. Who knows? The character could even show up in James Gunn’s upcoming Peacemaker series, which debuts next year on HBO Max.

Here is the synopsis for The Suicide Squad:

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid and Taika Waititi.
