And Just Like That, the Season’s Best Jumpers Have Arrived

Now, we find ourselves at that specific point in the year where we have two options before us: going out in a coat without a jumper or going out in a jumper without a coat. Personally, I always opt for the latter for as long as possible. That’s mainly because I am and will always be a jumper person, and until the time comes when both are required, jumpers (and umbrellas) are going to serve as my protection from the elements.

For the record, I’m not talking about flimsy knits that do little else other than give my T-shirts a break. I mean big, chunky, Michelin Man–style jumpers that are cosy, comforting and, naturally, chic. This, however, is a formidable combination and not one you come across every day. Some chunky knits can feel more bulbous than beautiful, while ones that deliver in the pretty stakes often lack the cosy quality I also look for. However, when a jumper does manage to kick off this golden triad, you know it’s worth your consideration.

Hot on the pursuit of some new woollies, I’ve rounded up what I consider the best chunky knit jumpers of the season. With a rainbow of colours and an array of weaves, lengths and embellishments, scroll on to see and shop 23 of the best chunky knit jumpers around.

Wear this pink jumper with black leather trousers for a cool, Alexa Chung–type clash.

Another season, another Paloma Wool knit that’s sure to take over.

Breton stripes are taking over the knitwear scene.

The cream cable-knit sweater is a staple every wardrobe needs.

Orange jumpers are trending this season.

This knit might technically be menswear, but the oversized fit makes it all the more appealing to me.

So good.

The colour of this striking knit looks as if it belongs on the runway.

Did someone say Christmas jumper?

Wear this with traditional checks for a preppy combination.

The knit taking over Instagram.

A pretty take on traditional Fair Isle.

The perfect WFH throw-on.

I’m always here for a spot of floral embroidery.

The cut-out detail on this minimal number feels very Khaite.

The buttons, the colour and the collar make this knit impossible to resist.

This looks so premium.

A brand-new take on the recurring rainbow-jumper trend.

Another impressive woolly I love from French brand Sézane.

Mark my words: This knit is going to sell out.

This would look excellent with a pale-blue slip skirt.

Such a gorgeous colour.

The pretty blue trim really peps up this cream cable-knit.
