Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis confirmed whether or not a certain key character really died in the film.

After half a dozen delays, Venom: Let There Be Carnage unleashed itself upon the box office this weekend and made out like an absolute bandit. All signs are pointing towards a sequel, especially one that features everyone’s favorite web-crawler, as teased in the film’s mindboggling mid-credits scene. It’s currently how unknown how Venom will factor into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, though we’re eager to see how the crossover comes into fruition.
What’s just as uncertain as Venom’s future is if Naomie Harris’ Shriek is really dead. As the film wrapped up, Shriek fell some 50-plus stories and had a giant cathedral bell land on her – a blow that would decimate everybody. Of course, the cardinal rule is: if you don’t see the body, they’re not dead. Director Andy Serkis cited this rule when asked by CBR.com if Shriek really perished at the end of Let There Be Carnage.
“Well, as you and I well know, in movies, you’re never dead, really. Until someone screams — which is ironic, in her case! [laughs].”
“But anyway, no. I think — look, depending on what happens in the future, depending on the appetite for the movies, etc, etc, etc, I think there’s probably a way — there is a version where you could quite easily have her not be killed, if we wanted to go that route. [laughs]”
So it’s pretty much Schrodinger’s Shriek at this point. It’s hard not to imagine the Venom creatives wanting to bring Shriek back as the character was a fan favorite from the sequel. As for Cletus Kasady AKA Carnage, his death was pretty explicit because, well, there was a body… that severely lacked a head thanks to Venom’s appetite for brains.

“After finding a host body in investigative reporter Eddie Brock, the alien symbiote must face a new enemy, Carnage, the alter ego of serial killer Cletus Kasady.”
Directed by Andy Serkis from a script written by Kelly Marcel, the film stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham and Woody Harrelson.
