‘Halloween’ Producer Reveals How Covid-19 Affected The Third Film

Halloween Kills producer Rayn Freimann has recently revealed how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the franchise’s third installment, Halloween Ends.

Back in 2018, the reboot/sequel to the 1978 slasher classic, Halloween wowed fans and critics everywhere. While it wasn’t without its faults, the film managed to earn over $255M worldwide on a $10M budget and currently holds a 79% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A sequel was quickly put into development before it was decided to shoot parts two and three back to back.

Originally the first of these two films, Halloween Kills, was set to be released in October of 2020. Like so many other films, the sequel was delayed for a year due to ongoing concerns over the Covid-19 Pandemic as was the third installment, Halloween Ends. Halloween Kills is set to be released in mid-October but some have wondered how the Covid-19 delay may have affected the third installment. According to producer Rayn Freimann, it didn’t really affect it all that much.

While speaking with Comicbook.com, the Halloween producer spoke about how the pandemic affected the story of Halloween Ends, stating that the end product would be more or less what they were going for all along:

“It’s pretty much on track with where it was. David and [co-writer] Danny [McBride] went off and just wrapped Righteous Gemstones Season 2 yesterday. They’ve spent the last 6-7 months doing that. David’s got his … He’s such a creative force, that now he’s doing The Exorcist and he’s got a Hellraiser TV series. The floodgates of horror are open to him, so I think he also has his convictions and I think that he knows the general direction he’s sailing the ship.

So, are we going to avoid little things here and there? Yes. Has it given us time to reflect on things? Yes. And, in some ways, it might be good, and hopefully not … Because I know sometimes when I sit with things for too long, you can juggle them to death, instead of just going with your gut. But to answer your question succinctly, it’s more or less the same thing we’ve had going along.”

Here is the official synopsis for the 2018’s Halloween:

It’s been 40 years since Laurie Strode survived a vicious attack from crazed killer Michael Myers on Halloween night. Locked up in an institution, Myers manages to escape when his bus transfer goes horribly wrong. Laurie now faces a terrifying showdown when the masked madman returns to Haddonfield, lll. — but this time, she’s ready for him.

Directed by David Gordon Green and produced by Jason Blum, Halloween stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Anthony Michael Hall, Kyle Richards, Dylan Arnold, Charles Cyphers, Nancy Stephens, Nick Castle, and James Jude Courtney.
