A brand new promo for What If…? flips the Avengers: Age of Ultron story on its head.
Avengers: Age of Ultron debuted in 2015, receiving mixed to positive reception from fans and critics. One of the highlights from the film was naturally the A.I Ultron, who was created by Tony Stark in hopes to protect the world. Stark’s plan backfired and the rogue A.I sought to save the world by destroying it. Eventually, the Avengers won against Ultron, but the events of the film rippled throughout the subsequent films, most notably Captain America: Civil War.
The latest episode of What If…? posits the question: What If…? Ultron won and gained the power of the Infinity Stones. It’s a loaded hypothetical scenario and one that we’ll be able to see tomorrow. To tease the episode, Marvel has released a brand new promo ahead of its release.
The opening moments of the teaser also revealed the episode’s plot synopsis:
“In an attempt to put a suit of armor around the world, Tony Stark invented the artificial intelligence, Ultron.
It went rogue and gained the power of the Infinity Stones.”
The teaser is brief but it does show the Avengers in peril as they battle hundreds of Ultron bots. It also appears that Ultron or some other force launched a series of nuclear missiles. Tomorrow’s episode is one that shouldn’t be missed as it could potentially send shockwaves throughout the entire animated multiverse.
Here is the synopsis for What If…?:
“Exploring pivotal moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turning them on their head, leading the audience into uncharted territory.”
What If…? features the voices of Josh Brolin, Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Michael B Jordan, Chadwick Boseman, Jeffrey Wright, Hayley Atwell, and other major stars from the MCU.
