Sam Raimi Opens Up About Alfred Molina’s Return As Doc Ock In ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Sam Raimi has finally shared his thoughts on Alfred Molina coming back as Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is expected to feature the return of several familiar faces from Sam Raimi’s original trilogy. While Raimi didn’t direct the film, he is very much involved with the Marvel universe once again as the director of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The only character from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy that we’ve officially seen so far is Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus. Molina revealed in an interview back in April that he’s playing the same version of the character that we saw in Spider-Man 2. SyFy Wire recently got the chance to ask Raimi what he makes of Molina’s return as Doc Ock now that the first trailer has debuted:

“That was beautiful. He looks great, the animation’s great. I’m assuming it’s not puppeted because when we did Doc Ock, we had puppets and animation for his octopus tentacles. But it was smooth and powerful and I loved his costume they kept [from the original]. I think it’s gonna be a great movie.”

Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, J.B. Smoove, Benedict Wong, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Tony Revolori and J.K. Simmons.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently set to be released on December 17, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
