This Simple Dress Trend Is Going to be Huge This Party Season

Typically, when I see that Alexa Chung has posted another outfit pic on Instagram, my reaction looks something like the army-pants-and-flip-flops girl’s scene in Mean Girls. So yes, I saw Alexa Chung wearing a lace slip dress to a party, and now I want to wear a lace slip dress to a party. The dress in question wasn’t labeled, but knowing Chung’s penchant for vintage pieces, I assumed that it was a secondhand find. The same can be said of the stunning mint green number spotted on influencer and vintage seller Pernille Rosenkilde. I sense a trend emerging.

Christmas-party season might feel like a long way away right now, but considering how quickly August has gone by, it won’t be long before we’re all on the hunt for something shiny for the work do (it’s been way too long). Incidentally, my 30th birthday is also coming up in November, so I have even more reason to start browsing for outfits to wear to special events. And I have to say the lace slip dress is looking pretty appealing right about now.

While there are plenty of vintage slip dresses out there (I’ve included a handful in my shopping edit below), I understand that shopping secondhand might not be for everyone. Luckily, countless brands have created their own takes on this sultry trend this season. Sir the Label’s stunning lace cut-out dress has been spotted on a number of influencers and comes in both black and white. Mango and Zara also have some cute, affordable options in pretty shades of blue.

All of the dresses below will, of course, look fabulous with strappy heels and big earrings for an event, but I also like how Rosenkilde has created a more high-low finish with a pair of trainers. (Just add a chunky knit for chilly days.) So very Scandi. Scroll down to see and shop my full edit of party-ready lace slip dresses, from high-street to high-end to vintage.
