Paramount has pushed Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7 to 2022 while Sony moved Ghostbusters: Afterlife back a week.
Upcoming movies are once again facing delays from studios due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases across the United States. Paramount announced on Wednesday that two of their upcoming Tom Cruise-led flicks will find a new home in 2022. Top Gun: Maverick is now set for May 27, 2022, over Memorial Day weekend, and Mission: Impossible 7 will now arrive on September 30, 2022.
Meanwhile, Sony is taking advantage of Top Gun 2‘s delay and pushing Ghostbusters: Afterlife back to November 19 after being previously dated a week before.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the next film up; here is the synopsis:
After being evicted from their home, a single mother and her two children are forced to move to a decayed farmhouse in Summerville, Oklahoma, left to them by the children’s late grandfather, where a series of unexplained earthquakes are occurring despite not being situated on any fault and strange things are happening in an old mine once belonged to the alleged occultist Ivo Shandor.
The children discover their grandfather’s history with the original Ghostbusters, who have since been largely forgotten by the world beyond their fan base.
When supernatural phenomena relating to New York City’s “Manhattan Crossrip of 1984” arises and threatens the town, the kids, along with their family and friends, must use the Ghostbusters’ equipment to save it.
Directed by Jason Reitman from a script he co-wrote with Gil Kena, Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Bokeem Woodbine, Oliver Cooper, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts.
