‘The Mandalorian’ Concept Art & VFX Imagines Another Jedi In Season 2 Finale

Concept art and VFX created for The Mandalorian season two finale features a Jedi from the Star Wars prequels instead of Luke Skywalker.

Luke Skywalker’s appearance in The Mandalorian season two finale was one of the biggest pop culture surprises in recent memory. On Wednesday, a new episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian that goes behind the scenes of the season two finale was released.

The episode touches on the lengths Lucasfilm went to preserve Luke Skywalker’s appearance in The Mandalorian finale. One method the creators took was using a fake-out with Plo Koon from the Star Wars prequels. Concept art and VFX work was even done to keep the secret and you can see that below.

Plo Koon notably died in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith during Order 66 after being taken down in the air by clone troopers. Plo Koon showing up in The Mandalorian would’ve been a major shock, but the Jedi Master used as a fake-out instead isn’t a surprise given Dave Filoni’s love for the character. Plo Koon has a more prominent role in The Clone Wars animated series, where he’s notably the Jedi who discovered Ahsoka Tano at an early age.

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Temuera Morrison, Katee Sackhoff, Ming-Na Wen, Bill Burr, Timothy Olyphant, and Carl Weathers, with Rosario Dawson joining the series as Ahsoka Tano ahead of her spin-off series. The series was created by Jon Favreau and executive produced by Dave Filoni, with season two episodes also directed by Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Peyton Reed, Carl Weathers, and Robert Rodriguez.

The Mandalorian is available to stream Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
