Warner Bros. Debuts First ‘The Matrix 4’ Footage At CinemaCon

Warner Bros. debuted the first look at Keanu Reeves’ long-awaited The Matrix 4 at CinemaCon last night.

Studios like Warner Bros. have taken over Las Vegas in a bid to win over exhibitors from all around the world at this year’s CinemaCon. During their presentation for their upcoming slate, Warner Bros. debuted the first official look at Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix 4 which finally has an official title: The Matrix Resurrections.

Gizmodo reports that the footage began with a therapist, played by Neil Patrick Harris, speaking with Thomas. Thomas is played by none other than Keanu Reeves. The patient reveals that he’s been having dreams that don’t feel like dreams. Reeves’ Thomas then walks down a street with the iconic green Matrix code. Shortly afterward, he walks into a coffee shop and meets none other than Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity. They both wonder if they’ve previously met each other.

As the footage continues, Keanu Reeves can be seen taking blue pills, with shots of feeling him confused playing shortly after. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II then pops up, playing a character who has been described to look just like Morpheus. He offers Reeves’ Thomas a red pill. As the action picks up, Thomas encounters a blue-haired person with a white rabbit tattoo. There is a brief look at Yahya and Keanu performing martial arts. After that, tons of action scenes are shown, with the highlights including Trinity plugging out of The Matrix and Reeves holding bullets in the air. The trailer then ends with a suited-up Jonathan Groff telling Thomas that he’s going back to the Matrix.

It’s easy to see that The Matrix 4 is, in a way, retelling the first film’s story from a new perspective, showing how not much has changed, with all the characters forced to go through the same events again and again. While it may sound derivative, audiences in attendance at CinemaCon praised the trailer. At the moment, the trailer hasn’t made its way online.

The Matrix and its two sequels collectively earned $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss portrayed Neo and Trinity, respectively, in all three chapters of the film series, each of which were directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski.

Directed by Lana Wachowski from a script she co-wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel, the upcoming The Matrix sequel stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Eréndira Ibarra, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Priyanka Chopra, Andrew Caldwell, and Brian J. Smith.

The Matrix 4 is currently set to hit theaters on December 22, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on The Matrix 4 and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
