Tom Hardy’s ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ Reportedly Pushed Back To 2022

Tom Hardy’s upcoming superhero film, Venom: Let There Be Carnage has reportedly been pushed back to 2022.

Back in 2018, Venom was something of a surprise hit. It was not well-reviewed by critics and many questioned what the point of such a film was without Spider-Man’s involvement. Nonetheless, the film managed to earn well over $800M at the worldwide box office, making it one of the highest-grossing Spider-Man-related films of all time.

A sequel to Tom Hardy’s Venom was quickly put into the works but, like many other films, saw numerous delays thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. Eventually, it seemed to settle on the release date for October 15th of 2021. Now, this release date may also be in jeopardy.

Yesterday Sony showed off several of their upcoming films at Las Vegas’s CinemaCon. This included a trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home and a surprise screening of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Oddly enough, there was nothing shown for Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

It has been rumored for some time that the upcoming Tom Hardy film would be facing another delay. As the Delta variant of Covid-19 continues to ravage the world, many have opted to stay away from theaters fearing for their health. According to a new report from Vulture, the film will face another delay in no small part due to this. Instead of October 15th, Venom: Let There Be Carnage will reportedly be released on January 21, 2022.

Here is the synopsis for Sony’s first Venom film:

The evolution story of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass character – Venom! Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is a broken man after he loses everything including his job and fiancée. Just when his life is at its lowest, he becomes host to an alien symbiote which results in extraordinary superpowers – transforming him into Venom. Will these powers be enough for this new lethal protector to defeat great evil forces, especially against the far stronger and more weaponized symbiote rival, Riot?

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script written by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.

Venom is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, while Let There Be Carnage will hit theaters on October 15.
