The latest Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings trailer might have spoiled an important character’s death.
Potential spoilers ahead for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Not much is known about The Death Dealer, though they have been a prominent fixture for the Shang-Chi marketing campaign. The Death Dealer has been seen in almost all the footage released, with the most notable scene being the assassin fighting Shang-Chi atop scaffolding. What’s interesting is that footage from the trailers shows The Death Dealer training the Simu Liu character in his early days alongside his father.
The latest TV Spot for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings titled “Next Level” is packed to the brim with new footage, including a brief glimpse at the moments before The Death Dealer could potentially perish.
In the TV Spot, The Death Dealer is seen being lifted up by a tentacle-like monster that is sliding tentacles into the villain’s mouth. A blue glow is seen emanating from the character’s surprised mouth.
Another shot then shows Shang-Chi starting off a large explosion in a body of water, which causes birds to flee in panic. However, inside the water is a tentacle-like creature, potentially a similar one seen sliding its tentacles inside The Death Dealer.
This isn’t confirmation that The Death Dealer will pass in Shang-Chi but the shots provided do potentially imply that the character doesn’t have a future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Here is the synopsis for Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings:
“Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi in Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings. Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.”
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by David Callaham, the Marvel film stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Ronny Chieng, and Dallas Liu. The upcoming movie will hit theaters on September 3, 2021.
