‘The Marvels’ Director Nia DaCosta Says Sequel Will Explore ‘Pain & Trauma’

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta teased what themes the upcoming sequel will explore.

Filming on The Marvels began recently and the sequel will see Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers team up with Kamala Khan, following her debut in the upcoming Disney Plus series. Not too many details are known, but The Marvels will also be bringing in Nia DaCosta to direct.

As production on The Marvels gets rolling, Nia DaCosta has also been promoting Candyman and in a recent interview with Variety, the director touched on the themes the upcoming Marvel film will tackle:

“I think everyone is aware there’s something wrong about the way violence is enacted against Black people in this country… it feels like [‘Candyman’] should be prescient, but Black people carry this pain with them all the time and have for a long time. I can say [ The Marvels][is] a very different beast… But I am obsessed with how we all deal with our pain and trauma, and there’s some of that in the story.”

Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers was last seen in Avengers: Endgame. Here is the plot synopsis for the film:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.

Avengers: Endgame is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, while The Marvels will hit theaters on November 11, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the MCU and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
