James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have no plans to make 007 star in an Amazon series.
Shockwaves were sent through the industry earlier this year when Amazon purchased MGM for a whopping $8.45 billion. This purchase allows Amazon control over MGM’s vast slate of IPs, which include The Handmaid’s Tale, Rocky, Robocop, and James Bond. While Amazon may technically own James Bond, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli hold control over the franchise and have the final say over creative and financial decisions.
With the Amazon deal complete, many have been wondering if James Bond would make his way over to Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video for a television series. When asked if they would say no to that question by Total Film, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson agreed, stating that they have no plans to send 007 to television.
“You got it. We make films. We make films for the cinema. That’s what we do. We’ve resisted that call for 60 years.”
It certainly would be interesting to explore James Bond’s early days through a television series but it makes sense why the 007 producers don’t want to bring the character to the small screen. James Bond has become a permanent fixture of cinema in the last 60 years and is one of the few franchises that hasn’t pivoted over to television. Hopefully, they can stay true to their word and not cave when the time comes.
