‘Shang-Chi’ Will Feature A Cameo From A Controversial Marvel Character

A controversial Marvel character will be showing up in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Spoilers ahead for Marvel’s Shang-Chi.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings held its premiere in Los Angeles last night, where a familiar but controversial face appeared. Ben Kingsley was seen at the ceremonial event, taking photos with fans ahead of the film’s screening. Kingsley appeared in Iron Man 3 as Trevor Slattery, a drunk actor who had reeled in to portray the role of The Mandarin, the leader of The Ten Rings. This reveal immediately became controversial amongst Marvel’s heads, with many disappointed that Iron Man’s arch-nemesis was reduced to a bumbling actor who spewed propaganda. Others absolutely loved the twist, praising it for its originality and cleverness.

Ben Kingsley later reprised his role as Slattery in the Marvel One-Shot All Hail The King, which saw the bumbling actor in prison, only to be broken out of prison to meet the “real” Mandarin, who he had angered with his portrayal.

The official Shang-Chi Twitter account first revealed that Ben Kingsley was at the premiere. During the premiere, Marvel officially confirmed that Kingsley would be reprising his role as Slattery in the film.
