Sony has pushed back the release of the Tom Hardy starrer Venom: Let There Be Carnage by three weeks.
With the highly-contagious delta variant of the coronavirus driving new cases and hospitalizations across the globe, Sony has announced that it has decided to delay the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The film, which sees Tom Hardy returning to the role of Eddie Brock, is now set to hit theaters on October 15, 2021. It was previously scheduled to open on September 24th.
Directed by Andy Serkis, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is the second entry in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, which is also known as “SPUMC.” Sony is also gearing up to release another Marvel film titled Morbius, which sees Academy Award winner Jared Leto taking on the role of a biochemist who turns himself into a living vampire while attempting to cure a rare blood disease.
The first Venom film follows Eddie Brock as he attempts to revive his journalism career by investigating the Life Foundation only to come into contact with an alien symbiote that bonds with him, granting him powers and transforming him into the titular anti-hero. It’s the second iteration of Venom seen on the big screen as Topher Grace played the character in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.
In addition to Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Venom: Let There Be Carnage also stars Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, Naomie Harris as Frances Barrison, Reid Scott as Dan Lewis and Stephen Graham as Patrick Mulligan. Kelly Marcel wrote the screenplay based on a story she developed with Hardy.
