‘Black Widow’ Passes ‘F9’ As Highest-Grossing Film Domestically During Pandemic

Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow solo film has topped F9: The Fast Saga to become the highest-grossing film during the COVID-19 pandemic at the domestic box office.

F9: The Fast Saga was one of the biggest blockbusters to come out this summer as the COVID-19 pandemic continues worldwide. Six weeks in, the ninth installment has grossed an impressive $169.8 million at the domestic box office for Universal. F9 had the highest domestic gross during the COVID-19 pandemic until Marvel Studios’ Black Widow swopped into theaters after several delays.

Black Widow is four weeks into its theatrical run and despite it also have a day and date release on Disney Plus, the Marvel prequel has surpassed F9: The Fast Saga with $170 million domestically. The film’s success comes as Scarlett Johansson laid a lawsuit on Disney over the streaming release. F9 is still ahead of Black Widow globally, with $643.3 million compared to the superhero film‘s $346.2 million.

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Directed by Cate Shortland from a script written by Eric Pearson based on a story by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson, the Marvel film stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, Ray Winstone, Olivier Richters, and Rachel Weisz.
