Nia DaCosta breaks her silence on directing The Marvels with filming on the Phase Four project expected to get underway soon.
Like most Marvel Studios projects, details on the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel has been under wraps. We learned a few months ago that the sequel will be titled The Marvels and unite Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel with Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan, who we will get to see soon on her Disney Plus solo series premiering later this year.
The Marvels will also feature the return of Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau after getting her powers in WandaVision with Zawe Ashton said to be playing an unnamed villain. Candyman director Nia DaCosta will also step in to helm the sequel and spoke to Entertainment Weekly about working with Marvel Studios:
“It’s a lot less traumatizing to work on for sure. But this movie also deals with specific, personal, sometimes sad things. But no, it’s been nice to work in a different world for sure…it’s amazing. [It’s] more [freedom] than I’ve had on anything. It’s great because we’re all just comic-book nerds who want to make a great comic-book movie.”
