Surreal Deepfake Adds Chris Pratt To ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Game

A surreal new deepfake adds Chris Pratt to the recently announced Guardians of the Galaxy game from Square Enix.

Square Enix’s E3 conference this past weekend saw the reveal of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, an action-adventure video game take on the beloved cosmic space team. Set to hit game stores this October, the game took its own inspired approach when it came to crafting the characters, deviating from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s versions. This isn’t entirely uncommon as Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers also strayed from the MCU portrayal, and as did Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. However, a new deepfake imagines Chris Pratt stepping into the role of the digital Star-Lord.

The deepfake does a great, if not too great a job showing Chris Pratt as the leading man in the game. It’s a bit jarring not hearing Pratt’s voice as Star-Lord but his mannerisms are right down to a T. In the end, this deepfake video gives fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy films a great ‘what if?’ scenario. We’d love to see deepfakes of Zoe Saldana’s Gamora and Dave Bautista’s Draz in the future, but those would no doubt be more difficult because both actors are under heavy prosthetics and make-up, which wouldn’t translate well to the deepfaking process.

What are your thoughts on the Chris Pratt deepfake? Do you think Pratt and the rest of the MCU actors should’ve been brought in for the game? Comment below and let us know!

In terms of big screen adventures, James Gunn is currently on pre-production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with filming set to begin later this year. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn. Most of the cast was last seen in Avengers: Endgame. Here is the official synopsis for the Marvel Studios movie:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner, Brie Larson, Josh Brolin, and Chris Pratt.
