Disney Plus Original Series To Launch On Wednesdays After ‘Loki’ Success

After the success of Loki, Disney Plus will launch all of its original programming on Wednesdays instead of Friday.

Fridays have always been considered by fans across the globe as Marvel and Star Wars days, as all of Disney Plus’ original programming has launched on the last weekday. Disney decided to shake it up a bit by releasing Tom Hiddleston’s Loki on a Wednesday, which confused many, and delighted others. With the change in schedule, Loki rapidly emerged as the most popular series on the platform with just one episode, beating out heavyweights likes WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

This change in schedule will apply to all Disney Plus originals, including all unscripted, scripted, and animated series. The change currently doesn’t apply to Disney Plus’ upcoming cinematic slate. The reason for the change is likely because Disney wants its viewers to psychologically associate Wednesday as television drops and Fridays as movie drops. With everything releasing on Friday, viewers tend to forget what’s new and stick to what they already would have been watching. Plus, people tend to stay at home more often on the weekdays, which means they’ll have more than enough time to catch shows like Loki before they get spoiled for them.

This upcoming change in scheduling has shifted the premiere dates for numerous Disney Plus originals. You can see the full list below.

“Monsters at Work” from July 2, 2021 to July 7, 2021
“Turner & Hooch” from July 16, 2021 to July 21, 2021
