Ant-Man 3 villain Jonathan Majors has revealed that he’s seen every single movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Working in a Marvel movie is a dream come true for any actor because it opens up hundreds of opportunities down the road, gets your face seen by millions across the world, and if you’re cast as a regular, then it comes with a steady paycheque. For Jonathan Majors, who is set to star in Ant-Man: Quantamiana as Kang the Conqueror, starring in a Marvel movie is about being part of something that shapes our collective culture.
In a recent interview with Variety, Jonathan Majors shared how he’s excited to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how, unlike other actors, he was already familiar with the source material he was being brought into.
“The wonderful thing about my timeline for my education is that I watched the Marvel films, and to that end the DC films, blow up. I watched it happen, I got to watch those movies in context, and actually I never missed one either. It’s just so culturally, our culture is so steeped in it. If someone made a time capsule they would go ‘Yeah, superhero movies.’”
Majors then went on to compare modern Marvel movies like Ant-Man to ancient Greek plays in how they deal with the same themes and concepts despite being artistic endeavors centuries apart.
“Because I was watching these movies at a certain time in my training I did watch and go ‘Oh, I see what they’re doing there.I see what it is, Oh, they’re Greek plays.’ The superhero genre, but particularly Marvel in my opinion, They’re Greek. The size of them. The things they’re dealing with. The idea of fate and fantasy and future and legacy. All these things….I see rhythms and rhymes correlating in the Marvel universe, Ant-Man included, I see that.”
