WandaVision star Teyonah Parris teased her role as Monica Rambeau in Marvel Studios’ upcoming film, The Marvels.
Following her MCU debut as the adult version of Monica Rambeau in WandaVision, Teyonah Parris is set to return in the sequel to Captain Marvel, titled The Marvels. The film will be directed by Nia DaCosta and will also feature the return of Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel.
In a mid-credits scene from the WandaVision finale, Monica Rambeau’s future is teased when she meets with a Skrull that tells her that a friend of her late mother’s would like to meet with her. Upon signing onto a Marvel Studios role, Teyonah Parris was aware that she would be committing herself to more than one project. She tells The Hollywood Reporter:
“From the jump, they were very clear that the projects they’re bringing to Disney+ would be seamlessly integrated into the feature world. Now, they did not say that my character would necessarily be going along with it. But I knew it wasn’t a stand-alone project.”
While promoting WandaVision earlier this year, Teyonah Parris teased that Monica Rambeau would have a new dynamic with Carol Danvers now that it’s been over 20 years since the first Captain Marvel took place in the MCU chronology:
“Yes, when Monica was an 11-year-old girl, with her mom and Auntie Carol, they had a beautiful relationship. And so I think what’s been awesome with WandaVision is getting to see Monica grow up, and we haven’t seen her for 20 years plus, or however many, and getting to see slowly, it’s being revealed what her life has been since we last saw her. And so Carol Danvers was a part of her life when we last saw her, and seeing that there is still, there is something there, I think is very exciting. Because as we know, or maybe not, but I’ll tell you, that Monica will be in Captain Marvel 2 with Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel. So that gives us space to further explore what might be happening there, so I don’t want to ruin anything for you.”
