‘Loki’ Director Kate Herron Confirms Mephisto Won’t Appear In Tom Hiddleston Series

Loki director Kate Herron has confirmed that the demonic Mephisto won’t be appearing in the Tom Hiddleston series.

Earlier this year, fans latched onto a theory that suggested that demonic entity Mephisto was the one pulling the strings in Elizabeth Olsen’s WandaVision. The theory was ultimately shut down when it was revealed that it was Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha all along. Fans were naturally disappointed that the spooky villain didn’t make an appearance in the MCU but the character became a recurring joke online as to how fans create theories for themselves and they eventually implode once they never come true. It looks like some folks didn’t learn their lesson as many are speculating that Mephisto is set to appear in Tom Hiddleston’s Loki but luckily, director Kate Herron shut that theory down immediately.

In the show’s trailer and pilot episode, a shot is held on a demonic entity imposed on a stain-glassed window in a church, which implied to many that Mephisto was the big bad in Loki. Kate Herron spoke to Entertainment Tonight to nip the bud on the theory.

“It’s honestly just a super weird coincidence. Like, it’s genuinely a reference to Loki – the horns, he was cast out of heaven, that’s what it’s a reference to. I did see all the stuff about that online and I was like, ‘Oh, this is going to be interesting.’ [Laughs] But no, it’s more relevant to the themes of our show and it’s not a nod to that character.”

The writer for the Tom Hiddleston-led series, Michael Waldron also commented on Mephisto’s non-inclusion.

“Mephisto, I was just reading about that character. It’s pretty interesting. It would be interesting if he ever showed up in the MCU.”
