DC’s Upcoming ‘Blue Beetle’ Film May Be Heading To HBO Max

DC’s upcoming superhero film based on Jaime Reyes’ Blue Beetle film may skip a theatrical run and be released directly on HBO Max.

The state of the DC Extended Universe seems to be in constant flux. Since the critical failures and box office underperformance of both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League many projects for the shared universe have been started, canceled, or remained in a state of limbo. One such film has sadly been a Blue Beetle film.

First revealed back in late 2018, news on the upcoming Blue Beetle film had been hard to come by. The project then had new life breathed into it when seemingly out of nowhere Angel Manuel Soto was hired to direct the film with production being eyed to start in late fall. But now the upcoming film may skip its theatrical run in favor of an HBO Max release.

Recently The Los Angeles Times published a report that addressed Warner Bros’ future under Discover. The studio had originally been purchased by AT&T but the telecommunication giant has opted to sell the classic movie studio to the media company. It is currently unknown how this new merger will affect the studio’s future but the report had something interesting to say about Blue Beetle. According to the article the film will be released on HBO Max alongside other mid-budgeted DC projects like Batgirl. It did not reveal any further details.

Do you think the film would be released on HBO Max?? Would you rather see Blue Beatle on the big screen? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

In DC Comics lore, Dan Garrett was an archeologist who discovered the Blue Beetle Scarab and used its power to fight crime. Though his successor, Ted Kord, was unable to harness the Scarab’s power, the brilliant billionaire took on the Blue Beetle mantle from his mentor using technology and martial arts. Years later, a teenage boy named Jaime Reyes came into the possession of the Blue Beetle Scarab and used it to manifest a weaponized exoskeleton. Taking on the Beetle Mantle, Jaime used the suit to fight crime alongside his two best friends Brenda and Paco.

Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner, Jaime Reyes made his first appearance in DC’s Infinite Crisis #5 in 2006.
