Sebastian Stan teased how much longer he will be in the MCU as the Winter Soldier.
After making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2011 with Captain America: The First Avenger, Sebastian Stan made his triumphant return in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Since his appearance in that pivotal entry in the MCU, Sebastian Stan’s significance in the story, particularly in regards to the arc of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), has been an emotional centerpiece in the whole franchise.
With Steve Rogers officially retired from the ongoing MCU canon (at least for now), Sebastian Stan’s James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes has to move on and fight new battles alongside his brother-in-arms Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who is officially the new Captain America. The hit series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier gave us our first glimpse at Bucky’s future in a world without his old friend.
In a recent interview with Variety, Sebastian Stan was asked about how much longer he’ll remain part of the MCU. Well, it appears that he’s enthusiastic about being in the role for as long as Marvel’s Kevin Feige wants him to be:
“Again, it’s like, no idea, man. It’s not up to me. I don’t make these decisions. As long as they’ll keep calling, I’m there. I don’t know. I get old, too. Like everyone in the world, I AGE! So I don’t know what that means. Maybe it doesn’t mean anything! I have no idea. I’m just going for the ride.”
Sebastian Stan also pondered the possibility in continuing to play Bucky for decades:
“May I be so lucky. It’s really quite wild, it really is. A lot of people on TV, there are shows that have gone on for so many seasons, Friends, I mean, there’s a lot of where…you get to go and play a character for such a long period of time. It’s like gaining a family member. You gain, like, a brother or something in this case for me. You get to see this character again and again, and then you’re always growing up, and they’re sort of growing up with you in a weird way.”
