Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has quickly become one of the most interesting future films on the Marvel slate thanks to its tantalising title, alongside the fact that WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Scarlet Witch opposite Benedict Cumberbatch. Kevin Feige recently confirmed that filming has finished on the sequel, but an interesting new casting detail teases one of the Marvel Comics alternate realities that the film may visit.

Casting information on Spotlight shows that an actor named Jon Prophet is playing an extra in the Doctor Strange sequel, and he’s listed as ‘New Yorker 616’. For those not aware, 616 is the designation given to the main Marvel Comics reality where most of the major storylines have taken place over the years. So could the sequel actually dive into the world of the comics themselves? Possibly. It’s worth noting that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has its own designation in the Marvel Comics continuity too, taking place on Earth-199999, so it’s possible.

What do you make of the casting news? Is it an insignificant detail or will the film dive into the Marvel Comics reality? Sound-off in the comments below!

Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch was last seen in WandaVision:

Marvel Studios’ “WandaVision” blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)—two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.

Matt Shakman directed the series with Jac Schaeffer as the lead scribe; WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Evan Peters as Ralph Bohner, and Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness.

WandaVision is available on Disney Plus, while Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Madness will be released on March 25, 2022. Keep following along to stay up to date on all of the latest surrounding the MCU, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
